My Experience of receiving the Dolphin Attunements

(An excerpt from Dolphin Love ... From Sea to Land, Linda's book that tells the story of her 7-year journey with Dolphin that led to the Dolphin Attunements.)

By the time I participated in Linda’s first Dolphin School pod, in the Spring of 2003, I had been on a conscious spiritual path for almost thirty years. I had attended many workshops and trainings, followed various teachers, practiced many different disciplines, meditated in many different ways, and learned to channel. In the course of all this, I had a number of profound and life-changing mystical experiences. 

And of course I had been around Linda for 7 years. I had gone with her to swim with the dolphins, I had attended many dolphin meditations, and I had received many dolphin energy healing sessions—which were always amazing.

But the Dolphin Attunements were completely new.

One difference I noticed was that when Linda would give me a dolphin energy healing, it was clear that the dolphin energy was coming through her. She was the vehicle. But that wasn’t true for the attunements. Linda played a part, but the attunements didn’t come through her. They just … came.

I was happy that we always laid down to receive the attunements. I had the sense that if I had been standing up when the attunement came in, or even sitting, my body would have just fallen over.

One of the women, sharing after our 1st Attunement, called it the “Ka-pow!” Attunement. The energy that came in was that sudden and that strong. And it’s not even right to call it an “energy.” It was more like a group of profoundly advanced beings were performing some kind of surgery on very high parts of me, parts of me that were far beyond my experience of myself as a human being in a human body, parts of me that I hadn’t known existed.

And it happened outside of time. In linear time, we would lie down, and it would be forty-five minutes to an hour-and-a-half before any of us would be ready to get back up. Still, it was very clear to me that the attunement was happening outside of linear time. I could say it happened “in an instant” or “in a moment,” but that’s not quite right. The experience was that the attunement hadn’t happened yet … and then it had. And then I could do nothing but lie there for a long time, while my body and energy system slowly began to absorb and integrate what had happened. Eventually I would become aware that I was ready to slowly get up.

There was never any fear. Instead I felt absolute trust, complete safety. And I felt profoundly honored and grateful to be receiving this gift.

After each Dolphin Attunement, when we were finally ready to get up, we would all walk outside. Each in our own timing, in silence, we would slowly walk the streets of the neighborhood where Linda and I lived. Each time, I felt like a brand new being, in a brand new world. I found myself stopping at every bush, tree, and cactus, communing deeply with the spirit of each plant I encountered. The plants seemed to understand.

It was probably a lucky thing that we were in Sedona. In another town, a neighbor might have looked outside, seen this bunch of crazy, stoned-looking people, and called the police! I do remember running into one neighbor on one of these walks, who looked at me and asked, “Are you all doing some kind of workshop?” All I could do was nod and smile.

Sometimes, during the attunements, there were visions. During my 4th Attunement, I had the sense that I was in a basement, below ground level. Suddenly, all of the matter above me broke into pieces and dissolved. It was like all the lights were turned on. I looked up, and there was no longer a ceiling above me, and not even a sky. Just massive amounts of gold-and-white light, streaming in, enveloping me, brighter than anything I’d ever experienced. I stayed in that light for a long time.

All of this led up to the final Dolphin Attunement – the completion of the Attunement journey - which was the most remarkable by far. During that attunement, I found myself gliding through the water, surrounded by four dolphins. There was one above me, one below me, one to my left, and one to my right. We were all moving together, at the same speed. Gradually the dolphins came closer and closer. Their bodies became all shimmery, and so did mine. We weren’t matter anymore; we were light. As the light dolphins kept coming closer, our bodies began to overlap. We overlapped more and more, until we merged completely. And then there was only one body, glimmering with light, gliding through the water. It was dolphin, and it was human. And it was me.

Later that night, alone after everyone had gone home, I became aware of a new, strange feeling around the middle of my back. I reached my hand around and felt my back. Physically, there was nothing there. But energetically, I could trace the outline of something very distinct and real. My dorsal fin.
